Here are my 2010 Holiday Cards. If you would like one, or you recently did a fall mini-session, choose the card by the number above it. Try to stick to the amount and orientation of photos when you’re choosing yours. I can always modify them though if it doesn’t work the way you want. Colors can also be changed. The cards are $100 for 25 cards.

So… I just realized this morning that I booked the fall mini-session dates over Thanksgiving weekend. Obviously that’s not a great weekend for most people so I’m going to be changing it to Saturday, October 2nd and Sunday October 3rd. If you’ve already booked a session I’ve emailed you to reschedule.

I know it seems early to start thinking about Christmas cards and presents, but for these cards it does pay to think ahead. I will need to have all Christmas Card orders in by November 15th so that you can get them by December 1st and send them out to all your friends and family. Plus, what better gift to give grandparents than a nice framed photo, or better yet a canvas of your family for a Christmas present!

I sometimes have clients or friends wondering why custom portraiture is so much more expensive than going to WalMart or Sears to get a few quick snaps of your family or children.
To me, custom photography means capturing memories of your children and creating art out of those memories that you would be proud to hang on your wall. There are many, many great photographers in Edmonton, but we all have slightly different strengths and styles. Custom photography is about having a choice about what style meets your needs, and having some choices along the way as to how your session will go and what you’d like to see in your photos.
Custom photography is much more time consuming than big box photography studios. You don’t have to worry about who’s next in line or how much time we have. I take as much time as we need, and for a newborn session that can sometimes mean 4 hours or more.
Custom photographers offer products that you just cannot get from big box studios. From the basic prints to the canvas and albums, the quality is wonderful. Speaking of that… I do have a few new products that I’m going to work into the mix soon. Stay tuned for some photos and details as soon as I get my samples in!
I also spend a lot of time editing your photos and create unique pieces of art with the color adjustments and textures added. I’ve shown below a few of the before and afters of some recent sessions… with 25 to 35 images per session you can understand how the time can add up! You pay for my knowledge and training in understanding how to touch up that baby acne, how to create a stunning black and white conversion and how to add textures and layers of color to make that image really pop.

Wow, I have to say I’m completely flabbergasted at how fast I got really busy this year. My husband is some kind of search engine genius and boy has it paid off to marry him!

I’m nearly booked up for the next 3 months, so if you were thinking about booking a family session and catching some memories of your babies in the summer sunshine before the snow falls, now would be the time to do it! August is completely booked and you can see below my availability for family sessions for September and October. These would be outdoor evening sessions starting at around 7pm, lasting for about one hour. I may be able to fit in a newborn here and there so if you’re interested in a newborn session that doesn’t fit into those dates email me at karey@kareywood.ca.

I know, it seems strange to lower my pricing in the new year instead of raising like most businesses do. My original pricing was mostly based on what other photographers in the area are charging but I felt like I needed to lower mine for a few reasons this year. I really want to shoot more this spring and summer and hopefully at this lower pricing more people will be enticed into hiring me. I also wanted to offer some packages where you can get the files and print them yourself because it seems there has been some demand for that.

You’ll be happy to see lower pricing on all my prints as well as my gallery wrap canvasses. The canvasses are so gorgeous and the feedback I’ve gotten on them is that they’re just a little too pricey. They are anywhere from 15-40% less than the original pricing. Here’s the new pricing for the gallery wrap canvas.

16×20 – $295.00
16×24 – $325.00
20×24 – $350.00
24×30 – $450.00
30×40 – $600.00

I’ve also decided to offer digital packages because I want you to have the option of having your entire session to print now or print later. This allows you to have your entire session rather than just your favorites and to print as many as you want. The first package is only your prints and a 4×6 proofbook. The other two packages include a gallery wrap canvas and a coffee table book because the professional quality of those is so much better than anything you can get at any local lab.
