Maternity and Newborn Sessions

They are some of my favorite sessions. I love that I am blessed with the opportunity to capture your new little babe in that first few weeks of life. I have three of my own, so I know there’s really nothing like it. My approach to newborns is gentle, natural and patient. My biggest concern is always to respect the boundaries of parents and newborns, and above all to be safe. If a baby doesn’t like a pose, I don’t push it. While I do like a basket here and there, my style is mostly clean, natural and soft. Maternity sessions are similar… it’s an amazing time to remember. Please read below the frequently asked questions, browse through some of my newborn galleries here and on the main blog. Feel free to call or email me with any questions.

What is the investment for a newborn or maternity and newborn session?
The session fee for a newborn is $200 and for a maternity and newborn session it is $300. The session fee does not include any digital files or prints. After the session you will receive a gallery of fully edited photos to choose from. You can choose to purchase from the digital collections, or my a la carte menu. I have a minimum order of $350. My full price list is available on my blog at this link: 2012 Investment

What exactly is a digital file? Do you sell them?
I do sell digital files. It seems like most of my clients want those more than anything else. A digital file is a high resolution photo on disk that allows you to order as many of that photo, in whatever size you want. You can also order your own albums, canvas, etc. I highly recommend that you still order some of the higher end items such as albums and canvas from me because the quality is much higher than you would get at costco or any of the local labs. However, having those files allows you to back them up and have them forever as well as print a lot of them for family and friends at a low cost. The packages I offer as digital files are also in the link 2012 Investment

When should I book my newborn session?
You should book while you are still pregnant at about 5 months. If you leave it later I may still be able to get you in depending on how busy that particular week is, but as a usual rule I book about 3-4 months ahead of time.

Where does the session take place?
Newborn sessions can be shot at either my studio or your home. Most people prefer to come to the studio to have access to all of the props available. I will be shooting from my home studio until August 2012, and after that will be in a large studio in Sherwood Park. Once I’m in the new studio I will only be shooting newborn sessions there. Maternity sessions are usually shot in studio or at an outdoor location.

When do the sessions take place?
Maternity sessions take place at 7-8 months. Newborn sessions are done at 5-12 days after birth. If you have the baby sooner, or later than our original booked date you just keep me in the loop and we adjust the date where needed.

How does the session work?
A newborn session typically lasts about 3 hours. We take the time to feed and settle the baby and make sure he/she is nice and sleepy so that I can pose and move him around. I suggest keeping the session focused on the newborn, but if you would like a few shots with siblings and parents I’m happy to do them as long as siblings are cooperative.

About 2 weeks after the session I will send you an email with a link to your session that you can share with family and friends. I will send you a second link to the shopping cart where you can place your order online as well as pay for it online with a credit card. Once payment is received I will order it for you, and have it shipped to you within 2-6 weeks depending on the items.

Do you have a first year package?
I do! If you know you would like to invest in having the memories of your baby’s first year documented I have a package called La Bella Vita. It documents your belly to one year sessions. You can choose 4 sessions over the first year of life. Details are on my blog at 2012 Investment.

I was wondering if you would be willing to answer a couple questions for me so i can write up my career investigation for the NAIT photography program.
It would be extremely helpful if you did. If you don`t mind answering my questions please email me back as soon as you can.

Thank you
